About
The Student Advisory Board (SAB) was established to provide the opportunity for students to have an active role with the American College Theatre Festival on both a regional and national level. We work to provide a bridge between the ACTF Region 8 Board and the students they serve and empower student involvement within organizational, strategic, and community engagement throughout Region 8. We are for the students, by the students, and are intended to be your voice on a regional and national level.
The Student Advisory Board is committed to centering student voices within regional theatre leadership. We serve as a platform for inclusive community building, peer-led programming, and collaborative decision-making.
Our mission is to ensure that students are represented and empowered in shaping the culture and future of regional events. We strive to create a vibrant and inclusive environment where every student feels valued and heard, fostering a supportive space that amplifies voices and encourages kindness.
To achieve this, we organize engaging social events like traditional game nights, open mic nights, and prom night, designed to bring joy and connection among students. By uplifting each other through inspiration and motivation, we aim to empower our peers to explore their aspirations and hone their craft, creating memorable experiences throughout the festival.
Each year, we have approximately 8-12 spots available within the Student Advisory Board. It is a year-long commitment and has the potential to be extended. A majority of the work involved is remote, with the potential for in-person work at our yearly festival for those attending.

Who can become
a member?
Members include students with varying theatrical disciplines, which reflect the ACTF Region 8 programming. This is included, but not limited to, students showing interest/experience in Arts Leadership, DTM (Design, Technology, and Management), Directing, Dramaturgy, ITJA (Institute for Theatre Journalism and Advocacy), Acting, Musical Theatre, Playwriting, Stage Management, and TYA (Theatre for Young Audiences). Additionally, the geographical areas of which students are located according to Region 8 Circuits will be taken into account in student selection to best represent the Region. Multidisciplinary artists are also welcome.
We want to encourage students who are dedicated to theatre in higher education and the opportunities ACTF can provide. We are looking for people who want to strengthen their artistic practice, career goals, and utilize their unique voices as community leaders to apply. They will be able to hone their expertise and learn from their fellow students/colleagues as emerging professionals in the industry. Equity, Diversity, and Representation are at the highest regard of ACTF Region 8’s priorities and will be considered in choosing student members to best represent the future of American theater.
